Turning Center is Complete and Open for Classes!

Kevin Seiler | Published on 12/19/2022

After much work by our members, and a few donations to the club, our new Turning Center is up and running!

From the beginning we knew this space would add value to all of our members and to the community as a source for learning the art of woodturning. Since opening, the center has hosted a number of classes, often led by our member Chris Lawrence, on a number of different topics, including basic skew chisel techniques, how to turn a top, and some lessons on basic turning skills for another area club.

A number of pieces of equipment in the space were donated by members, including a new bandsaw, an air filtration system to manage the dust, and some new LED overhead lights.

The club lathes, as well as our sharpening system complete the workspace, allowing up to six students to work on a lathe during a class. The space also allows for indoor and outdoor gathering spaces for people to meet and discuss techniques.

Since the space is unheated, class schedules will be suspended until the weather turns a little warmer, but please regularly check our calendar for upcoming classes or events being held at the Turning Center, or by our club. Class information will be provided to you in the description of the class, as well as any required tools or materials needed.

We are especially grateful to the church elders for allowing us to use this space! It is our hope that the Turning Center will benefit our members and the local community for years to come!
