October 2025 Challenge - Turning a Wig Stand
Author Last Post

October’s challenge is to turn a wig stand that will be donated to the Breast Cancer Resource Center in Princeton, New Jersey. Our goal is to donate thirty or more wig stands.

The drawing on the attachment gives the basic dimensions for a wig stand. The dome at the top needs to be a continuous curve with no sharp edges that could deform a wig. Domes for adults should be 4” to 5” in diameter and domes for children and teens should be 3” to 4”. The base either needs mass or be wide enough to provide stability. Let us get creative this year and use a figurine for the stem. Pictures 1 through 3 are examples created by Nationally ranked turner, Linda Ferber and the last stand was created by our own Bobby McCarley. This year, color is key. The overall height should be between 13” and 15”. The finish needs to be something that will not react with nor harm the wig. Acceptable finishes include lacquer and polyurethane. Do not use waxes, oils, or shellac.
