September 2025 Challenge - Turning a Baby Rattle
Author Last Post

September’s challenge is to turn a baby rattle. Three different styles of rattles are pictured in the attachment. The first and second contain beads. The third uses the captive rings to make the rattle. The choice is yours, but as always, there is extra credit and bragging rights for a rattle with captive rings. And even more for a rattle that contains both beads and captive rings. To keep the recipient safe, no element of the rattle should be less than 1-5/8” in diameter. Or as Mike Peace describes, it should not fit in or through a toilet paper tube. Many of the rattles depicted in YouTube videos are unsafe for children. The ones that I have included in this handout conform to the consumer product safety guidelines. Traditional style rattles with thin handles are not safe for children.
