February 2024 Challenge - Plywood Turning
Author Last Post

As an alternative to Baltic Birch (which is a bit pricey) I purchased two pieces (12 in X 8 in X 3/4 in) of Pemcore Plus white birch plywood from woodworkerssource.com. Each piece was $8 for a total of $16 on the order. Originally when I ordered it on 1/28 they said it would not be here until Feb. 9 - 13, but I just received it today, 2/1. It also came with free shipping from Phoenix, AZ which was Fed Ex Express Saver - which was overnight shipping. (the shipping probably cost more than my order). Looking at the edges of the two pieces that were sent to me, there do not appear to be any voids.

February’s challenge is to turn something using plywood. It can be a bowl, platter, vase, lidded box or just about anything that you can think of. Your creation can be simple (stacked), or complex (segmented). For this challenge, it is all in the preparation. This is an excellent opportunity to get creative. Sharp tools are needed for this challenge as the glue is hard on cutting edges. Roughing works best with carbide tools.
