August 2023 Challenge - Metal Inlay
Douglas Cummings

August’s challenge is to create a work of art using metal inlay in the same vein as what Frank will be demonstrating at the July meeting, pictured at left. For those whose blood pressure rises at the thought, me included, the challenge is to embellish a turning of your choice with either copper wire, powdered metal, or gold leaf.

Great presentation! Frank showed us metallic powders and a syringe type applicator. I might try to make something with this method. What kind of metallic powder and applicator were used? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Karen,
Thanks
Please excuse the different font sizes and styles, I just copied and pasted from web sites.

The powdered copper was from Grizzly. It's on sale.

Grizzly T25493 - Copper Premium Metal Powder Inlay, 3 oz.

The syringe was from Woodcraft but they no longer carry it with  a 16 gauge needle.
I found the following on amazon. It's an assortment that should work.

BSTEAN Syringe Blunt Tip Needle and Cap - 10ml, 5ml, 3ml, 1ml Syringes 14ga 16ga 18ga 20ga Blunt Needles - Oil or Glue Applicator (Pack of 10)

You will have to replace the plunger with a stopper.
Use Thin CA glue.

Thank you so much, Frank. I ordered some things. Can't wait to experiment with it.
