Penturning

Pens

Blue and stained ones from today. I need to get closer to the bearings. The pink one doesn't open right. I did not push the transmission in far enough and it will not move now.

They look great, Beth. Keep at it!

Beth -

The slimlines are thought to be the easiest pens to turn, but I don't agree - especially by what you are seeing. The tranmissions are difficult to install and fail frequently, especially on installation. You can remove the transmission  by using a pen disassembly tool - in essence a steel pin - and reset or replace it. Harbor Freight sells a set of pins that work perfectly -  https://www.harborfreight.com/28-piece-transfer-punch-set-3577.html. tap it out carefully.

Disassemble the pen and drive the transmission out if it's broken, or simply reset the depth if it's not in correctly. If you need a new transmission, let me know, I have a bunch of extras I can bring to the November meeting.

I think your pens look great! You are keeping the diameters very good for the mating parts, your finishes look good, and I like the shaping! NICE WORK!!

I might suggest trying a single body pen, like a Vertex or Sierra. They are a little easier and more durable.

Welcome to the penturning addiction...lol

On Slimline pens when we did pens for vets, both Kevin and I have had problems with the twist mechanism.

Nice job on the pens – like your use of color.
