Can you preserve some handmade fishing flies as a memorial for fishing friends of a recently deceased family member?

This was posed to me a week ago and I thought we’ll let me try.

The process was pretty simple.

  1. Sprayed flies with hairspray to harden the wispy feathers and thread.
  2. cut a few burl pieces to fit into a solo type cup for the larger flies
  3. Used UV resin to attach flies to wood
  4. mixed up Alumilite Clear Slow and into the pressure pot overnight
  5. 2nd batch were small and needed to pour a blue layer in cup, cast, and then repeat steps 3 and 4
  6. Set the depth for the Niles Stopper inserts and drilled for all blanks
  7. used the stopper chuck and started turning
  8. sanded up to 600 then sanding paste
  9. micro mesh sanding up to 12k grit
  10. some finishing polish

here are my pics. I still need to buff them on the wheel to get the ultra shine.

i am just glad my experiment worked and able to preserve a memory for others
