Tool & Jig Making

Carbide Tools
Jesse Abraham

A big thanks to Bill for running the monthly discussions especially this one on tool making. I learned a lot from all who participated and the hints and examples from Pete, Ronnie, Chris and others gave me the courage to make larger carbide tools.

I successfully made a large round and large square carbide tool today. Just need to see if my turning skills are up to par to make the handles.

Inexpensive overall…found carbide cutters and set screws for 3.50 a piece, steel bar for 6 each and needed a tap set for 17.

thanks again for the discussion group

Jess – When you make your handles check a couple of your other tools to see the grain orientation in the handle to the cutter.  In my Sorbey tools, the grain in the handle it parallel to the surface of the cutter.

Good Luck!
