Very nice first attempt.

Kevin - leave the air hose from the compressor connected to the pressure pot. Then you should not have to be concerned about the pressure pot loosing pressure through the little leaks which are common in this particular pressure pot (I have the same one). You don't have to leave the compressor on, but by just having it connected the air tank of the compressor is a reserve for the pressure pot.

I took the plunge today and cast my first pen blank - and its a success! I made a rectangular blank mold from 1/2" HDPE for the mold. I also got my Harbor Freight paint pot to hold air for about 6 hours without losing much pressure. I did a three color pour - mixing a black die as the base color, a sapphire blue die, and a brilliant gold die for the coloring. I also added a Pearl-Ex Mica Pearl powder to the entire mix in the mold. Minimal stirring for the pour, as I wanted the colors to streak into the black. Needs a bit of refining, but I think this will make a great pen blank! Check it out -
