Since Resin casting seems to be on the menu this morning, I thought I'd
share photos of two recent projects.
In my demented mind, I think that sweet gum pods look a lot like the
corona virus. So, I stabilized and dyed some red using cactus juice.
Unfortunately the oven got way too hot before I noticed it on the first
batch and some got burned. They are in the Covid vase. The second
batch turned out better and they are in the Covid Box. Unfortunately I
didn't have enough to fill the mold as high as I would have liked.
I cast them in a PVC pipe using Alumilite clear slow and put them into
the pressure pot for about 4 hours. I then tuned them into the two
different shapes. The lid on the vase is walnut and the lid on the box
is the casting--I made it like I would a normal lidded box.
I call them my "Put a Lid on Covid Collection."
I ran out of pods for the second cast and they started floating in the
mold. Tried to let them soak for a while but without the success I had
hoped for. If anyone has a collection of sweet gum pods, I'd certainly
welcome them. Comments are welcome.
Jody, Feel free to put these on the Instagram page.
Cheers.
