A New Turning Season!

Summer’s over and time to get back to the shop!

Our first meeting of the fall will be this Tuesday, still at the little school, and still beginning at 7:30.  We have the little school for this entire season…thanks to Walter.

A couple things to remember for the meeting:

1.  Don’t forget the challenge to make and bring in a honey dipper.

2.  The bowls we promised to make for Frank Bonner’s wife are due this meeting.

Upcoming Area Events

The Woodworking Show” will be held this year on the weekend of February 16-18 at the Garden State Exhibit Center in Somerset (where they used to have the good ones).  The club needs to decide whether we will participate again, and if so, I will make the arrangements with the show management.  I cannot at this time find any information about any other woodworking shows in the area.  We can discus this at the meeting.

Bucks Woodturners will have Mike Kehs demonstrating Inside Out Turning at its regular meeting, September 18th.

Mike will also demonstrate Inside Out Turning at the NJ Woodturners meeting on November 27th.

New Jersey Woodturners Club will also host a demonstration by Bill Grumbine…the exact topic is not yet set.

Totally Turning 2006, presented by the Adirondack Woodturners, will be held this year the weekend of October 13-16 in Albany.  This symposium rivals the AAW national’s in the quality of demonstrators presenting.  Among those scheduled include Cindy Drozda, Dick Sing, Keith Tompkins and Rex Burningham, to name a few.  For  more information and a complete schedule of events, see totallyturning.com.  Registration is limited to 350 this year, so if you plan on going, act quickly.

Cape Atlantic Woodturners will host a Dennis Fuge demonstration of making decorative platters on October 22nd.  This will be a 3 to 5 hour workshop, starting at 11:00AM.  There is a fee for this workshop, so if you are interested, contact the club president, Mike Cunningham at 609.463.8870

American Association of Woodworkers

As a Reminder:  Our local club is actually a chapter of the AAW.  All members should also be members of the AAW.  Their dues are $40 per year which includes their magazine “American Woodturner” four times a year.  Some of our club benefits are an insurance policy which is fully funded by the AAW, and a source of activities and information about turning worldwide.

For 2007, members are encouraged to renew on line in the website.  As an incentive for doing so, the AAW will raffle off a new lathe to a member who renews on line only.

The AAW has revised its grant program to require submissions to only be accepted once a year.  The 2007 grant applications will be due in January.  Grants may be submitted individually by AAW members or by AAW chartered local clubs.  For details on AAW grants, see their website:  www.woodturner.org.

For your long range planning, the 2007 AAW Symposium will be held in Portland, OR, June 29 to July 1.

The Program Committee

The program committee welcomes suggestions for future meeting (or other?) events. If you have any suggestions for a demonstration, instruction, or anything else, let the committee know.
