Notes

February 2012

* Preparations are in the final stages for the Somerset Show.  The new Club brochure is printed and ready to distribute.  The display cases are spit-shined and the lathe stands are ready to load.  Several members volunteered their time to pick up the equipment and set up the booth as well as break down and pick up the equipment.  As always, your time and assistance are greatly appreciated!

Again, a special thanks to Mr. Sal Staniero for his time and talent in building the new lathe stands.

* Open turning saw several members take the helm and create bowls and goblets!

*Wood guru, Mr. Ron Hughes discussed the wood bleach that was suggested by Mr. Buren Gilpin.  It appears that experimentation on scrap wood is the best way to discover if this is a solution for your wood.

* Our newest member, Mr. Jon Murphy, discussed the tools he created himself.  Check back for more information on the easiest way to get the materials he used for the tools he makes!

* ATTENTION members: Do you like chatting about wood turning? Feel the urge to share your latest tool or technique, but the Club doesn't meet for a few days yet? Well have I got a solution for you! January 2012

* Atlantic Shore Wood Turners turned things around with a new web site, new demonstrators scheduled and new demonstrations planned for the New Year!

* The January 10, 2012 meeting was your chance to shine!  The first Show and Tell of the year highlighted member work and showcased the  Club Challenge, which included many turnings from a burl and many natural edged turnings; the ever popular photo booth was busy all night with Larry snapping away and President Ray Ostrow assisting with organization of the event; and members had a chance to catch up on all that was and all that will be happening in the Club this upcoming year; Charlie had Club clothing available for the members and several new orders were placed.
