Our group meets ten times a year, on the second Tuesday of
each month (excluding July and August), at the Holy Family Parish Center, in
Lakewood, NJ, (the white building at the
corner of East County Line Road (Rt. 526) and Ridge Ave.), in Lakewood, NJ.
[MAP]
Visitors and perspective members are always welcome at our
meetings. Whether you're an experienced woodturner, or just someone who is
interested in turning, you'll be sure to find something of value at our
meetings.
Feel free to browse our website. However, the Members area
is restricted to club members only. That's where all the good stuff is
hidden. So you'll have to join the club to find out
what's there!
Next Meeting:
Our club has decided to use their might to help
others, and at our May 13, 2008 meeting, we'll be taking the first step
in this direction! After a quick business meeting, the lathes will be
brought out, and the rest of the meeting will be devoted to making pens
for soldiers fighting in the gulf war. This is part of the
Freedom Pens Project,
coordinated through the Sawmill Creek Woodturning Organization.
Experienced pen makers will be teaching inexperienced members how to
make their first pens. And all club members are encouraged to make pens
on their own. We hope to have at least 100 pens by our June 10,
2008 meeting. Kits and blanks will be provided to the members. Monetary
donations - as well as pen kits and blanks - are encouraged and accepted
for this wonderful cause, in an effort to defray expenses.
Finally, the club challenge for the next 2 meetings
will be turned toys. The AAW is looking for turned toys to be brought to
their annual symposium, being held in Richmond, Va., Friday June 20 -
Sunday June 22, 2008. We are encouraging club members to make as many
turned toys as they can between now and the June 10, 2008 meeting. Mark
and John will take the toys to the symposium when they go.

You Just Missed:
The April 8, 2008 meeting was mostly devoted to Show &
Tell. Members brought their entries for the club challenge, which for
this month, was miniatures. Others brought some magnificant (if slightly
larger) pieces that they've turned recently, and Tom took pictures of
them for the gallery. These pictures will be added to the gallery pages
soon, so be sure to check back later to see them.
